About College

Jai Prakash Mahila College, Chapra is one of the best women's colleges in Saran, Bihar. The college is named after the freedom fighter, Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan. The college was established in February 1956 and it is a constituent unit of Jai Prakash University, Chapra.

 

In 1957, the college received the recognition for intermediate study and the college held the examination for intermediate students in the same year. From 1957, the college started with B. A. (Hons.) courses in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Music, Philosophy, Economics, Political Science, Home Science, History, Psychology, Urdu(Subsidiary) and B.A. (General). From 1970, the college  started with B. Sc. (Hons.) courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology and B. Sc. (General). From 2008, the college started 2 Year (4Semester) M.A. courses in Psychology and Home Science. From 2013, Jai Prakash Mahila College, Chapra has started with 8 semester UG- CBCS  which is a flexible education framework where students choose core, elective, and skill-based courses for their bachelor's degree as per NEP 2020 guidelines.

 

Jai Prakash Mahila College, Chapra is recognised under Section 2(f) and 12B of UGC Act 1956.

 

The College has two campuses, in which one is functional and the other is under construction. The campuses are spread over an area of more than 4 acres. The College has lush green surroundings and stresses the need to preserve and protect the environment by planting saplings. There is 24x7 supply of electricity with alternate power supply maintained by Green Generators and Solar panels installed in the college campus.

 

The college campus is wi-fi enabled and has a large and rich fully automated library with wide collections of books, reference books,  journals, periodicals, and newspapers. There are laboratories for all Science subjects, Psychology, Home Science, computer laboratory and language laboratory. The college has CCTV cameras installed and has smart classes where the teaching - learning process is supported by adequate infrastructure.

 

The college has a large auditorium named Prabhavati Sabhagaar. It is equipped with a large stage, two green rooms and a washroom. The college also has a working creche for the wards of faculties and students.

 

The college has two active NSS units through which students are encouraged to develop through participating in community service programs including several cleanliness drives in different localities of the district; educational awareness programs; blood donation initiatives, and different special and regular camps. Students from this college have previously participated in the Republic day programs, in New Delhi and have also been awarded the prestigious Rashtrapati Awards in 2015-16 and 2019-20.
